Picar Operations Manual

Your complete guide to working with Picar, the AI voice interpreter.

What is Picar?01

Picar is an AI voice interpreter — not just a translation tool. He is the third participant in your conversation. Two people share one device, speak in different languages, and Picar translates everything aloud in real time. He manages the conversation flow, remembers context, and preserves the tone and emotions of each speaker.

Picar listens to you, not the room. Hold the phone facing you, not your partner.

Mission Themes02

Pick a mission on the home screen to match your context. Each mission sets the visual mood, suggests relevant scenarios, and pre-selects a language pair for the translator. Switch any time — your conversation is not affected.

Communication Rhythm03

Picar operates with a structured turn-taking protocol. Here is what happens during each exchange:

Picar is listening
  1. 1
You speakSay what you want to communicate in your language
  2. 2
Picar holdsHe announces "Translating" (or the equivalent in the target language)
  3. 3
Picar interpretsThe full translation is spoken aloud in the other language
  4. 4
Picar passes the turnHe says "Please, go ahead" — this signals the channel is open for the other speaker

This cycle repeats for every exchange. The key signal is "Please, go ahead" — when you hear it, the channel is yours.

Commands are natural requests, not syntax. “Slow down” works the same as “Slower”.

Crew Identification04

After 2–3 exchanges, Picar will ask both speakers for their names. Once he knows them, he will address you personally: "Please, go ahead, Maria." This makes the conversation feel more natural. He won't ask for names in emergencies or very short conversations.

Bridge Commands05

You can address Picar directly by saying his name. Here is what you can request:

Basics
> “Picar, repeat thatRepeat the last translation
> “Picar, what did he mean?Clarify the other speaker's meaning
> “Picar, speak slowerSlow down the translation
Control
> “Picar, introduce yourselfExplain yourself to your conversation partner
> “Picar, explain that wordExplain a specific term or expression
> “Picar, tell him to waitAsk the other speaker to pause
Fix & Review
> “Picar, that's not what I meantSignal a mistranslation and clarify
> “Picar, summarizeSummarize the conversation so far
> “Picar, what did we agree on?Recap key decisions and agreements

Language Channels06

Picar supports 15 languages across 3 groups: Earth, Starfleet, and Middle-earth. When you select a language pair, the status dot shows the channel type:

A
English
B
Italiano
Dedicated channel — optimized translation with language-specific tuning
Auto-detect — universal mode, works with any pair but less precise

Picar dynamically adapts to your chosen pair — greeting, turn signals, and speech recognition are configured automatically.

Tip: picking a Mission Theme on the home screen pre-selects a likely language pair (e.g. Café → EN ↔ IT). You can still override it in the translator.

Explore New Worlds08

Picar supports 5 fictional languages. When you select one, the entire interface transforms — colors, atmosphere, sounds, and Picar's persona adapt to the world.

Starfleet — Klingon & Vulcan. Blue holographic interface with warp streaks. Picar becomes a Starfleet Universal Translator. Button says "Engage".

Middle-earth Elves — Quenya & Sindarin. Green forest atmosphere with falling leaves and the light of Eärendil. Picar becomes a wandering interpreter. Button says "Speak, friend".

Mordor — Black Speech. Red glow with ash, embers, and lava. Picar translates reluctantly. Button says "Command".

World themes are purely cosmetic — translation quality and accuracy are the same across all modes.

Operational Tips09

  • Speak in short, clear sentences — 1–3 sentences at a time works best
  • Wait for Picar to signal your turn before speaking
  • Don't talk over the translation — let Picar finish
  • Address Picar by name when you need something from him
  • If the translation seems off, say "Picar, that's not what I meant"
  • Share this operations manual with your conversation partner before starting
