Picar Operations Manual
Your complete guide to working with Picar, the AI voice interpreter.
What is Picar?
Picar is an AI voice interpreter — not just a translation tool. He is the third participant in your conversation. Two people share one device, speak in different languages, and Picar translates everything aloud in real time. He manages the conversation flow, remembers context, and preserves the tone and emotions of each speaker.
Communication Rhythm
Picar operates with a structured turn-taking protocol. Here is what happens during each exchange:
- 1You speak — Say what you want to communicate in your language
- 2Picar holds — He announces "Translating" (or the equivalent in the target language)
- 3Picar interprets — The full translation is spoken aloud in the other language
- 4Picar passes the turn — He says "Please, go ahead" — this signals the channel is open for the other speaker
This cycle repeats for every exchange. The key signal is "Please, go ahead" — when you hear it, the channel is yours.
Crew Identification
After 2–3 exchanges, Picar will ask both speakers for their names. Once he knows them, he will address you personally: "Please, go ahead, Maria." This makes the conversation feel more natural. He won't ask for names in emergencies or very short conversations.
Bridge Commands
You can address Picar directly by saying his name. Here is what you can request:
“Picar, repeat that”
Repeat the last translation
“Picar, what did he mean?”
Clarify the other speaker's meaning
“Picar, speak slower”
Slow down the translation
“Picar, introduce yourself”
Explain yourself to your conversation partner
“Picar, explain that word”
Explain a specific term or expression
“Picar, tell him to wait”
Ask the other speaker to pause
“Picar, that's not what I meant”
Signal a mistranslation and clarify
“Picar, summarize”
Summarize the conversation so far
“Picar, what did we agree on?”
Recap key decisions and agreements

Picar supports 5 fictional languages. When you select one, the entire interface transforms — colors, atmosphere, sounds, and Picar's persona adapt to the world.
Starfleet — Klingon & Vulcan. Blue holographic interface with warp streaks. Picar becomes a Starfleet Universal Translator. Button says "Engage".
Middle-earth Elves — Quenya & Sindarin. Green forest atmosphere with falling leaves and the light of Eärendil. Picar becomes a wandering interpreter. Button says "Speak, friend".
Mordor — Black Speech. Red glow with ash, embers, and lava. Picar translates reluctantly. Button says "Command".
World themes are purely cosmetic — translation quality and accuracy are the same across all modes.
